Laying Turf

Teal Turf will be pleased to quote for the complete installation of your new turf. If you would like to discuss a particular job or a no-obligation quotation, please contact us.

IMPORTANT: TURF NEEDS TO BE LAID THE SAME DAY AS DELIVERY. If you can not lay the turf on the same day then unroll the turf on a holding area (a hard surface will do) and water it . We hope you will find some of the pointers below helpful to laying your turf.

Laying Teal Turf
Start by unrolling one strip width of turf around the perimeter of the lawn. Avoid using small pieces at the edges as these can dry out and perish. Ensure that the underside of the new turf has full contact with the soil below.
Lay the next strip across the longest straight run and continue to work across the lawn, strip by strip, staggering roll end joints similar to brickwork. Working off boards helps to avoid footmarks.
Butt adjoining edges and ends against each other, but avoid stretching the turf. Overlapping pieces and ends of rows should be cut off neatly with a sharp knife or half-moon lawn edger.
Rolling
Light rolling may be of benefit depending on soil conditions. However do not over-roll or carry out rolling on wet soil.
Watering
Water the newly laid lawn within half an hour of installation, ensuring new turf is never allowed to dry out. This is especially important during the spring, summer and autumn months. Watering using a hose and sprinkler should be repeated at least once a day until the roots are established. The hotter, drier or windier the weather, the more water will be needed. Water immediately on any sign of turf drying out e.g. gaps, lifting, browning or curling. Some or all of the watering may not be required in the winter months.
Maintenance & Enjoyment
The new lawn can be used within weeks depending on the time of the year. Keep off in wet periods when establishment is taking place. Regularly mow your new lawn in the growing season, it may be necessary within three weeks of the turf being laid in the peak growing season. Set your mower to a high setting with sharp blades and avoid scalping. Further advice on lawn maintenance can be sourced from our website and The Lawn Expert book. Enjoy your new lawn.
